About us

Welcome to The Church at Southern Maryland's web site. Started in 2013, we are simply known as “The Church”. Our name is revealing of our relationship, function, and mission to the will of God. We do not follow trends, participate in gimmicks, nor try to do things so extreme in order to make a statement. WE ARE the SALT of the earth as in Matthew 5:13. WE ARE the gourmet seasoning of Heaven. WE ARE also the LIGHT of the world, a CITY set on a hill as in Matt 5:14. With boldness and courage we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus and genuinely desire to be seen as an example, a light in a dark place. WE ARE deliberate and obvious in letting our light so shine before men so that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father which is in Heaven, as in Matt 5:16.

We are not trying to become a consolidation of holiness and worldliness. We intentionally operate based on the Word of God and are not satisfied with counterfeits, knock-offs, or any attempt to modernize or make the Gospel palatable while losing the effectiveness and the very intent of God’s heart. While some are trying to walk a thin line between serving God and pleasing man, peppering the holiness of God with enough flesh in order to stay popular while maintaining membership, we unapologetically, and boldly teach, and preach the word of God and demonstrate a life of separation from all that is dear to the flesh. WE WILL operate in this world according to the calling and will of God encouraging others to abandon a less than victorious living in exchange for a full life in Jesus Christ. WE ARE committed to taking this GOOD NEWS to the streets, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" Matt 28:19.

The Holy Scriptures

We believe that "all Scripture is given by inspiration of God" (II Timothy 3:16). We believe this means that the whole Bible is inspired, and that holy men of God, which were "moved by the Holy Spirit" (II Peter 1:21), penned the sacred words of Scripture.

The Godhead

We believe there is only one true and living God, the Maker, Redeemer, Sustainer, and Sovereign of all things. He is endless, everlasting, and unchangeable, and is revealed to us as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Atonement for Sin

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a substitutionary sacrifice, and that all, who believe on Him, are redeemed by His shed blood. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ and in His ascension into heaven; He is our High Priest and Advocate. (John 1:1-3, 14; 3:1-7; Hebrews 10:4-14; I John 2:2)

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God's grace. It cannot be gained or made more secure by meritorious works, but is freely conferred upon all who place their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary. All, who so trust the Savior, are forgiven of their sins and born into the family of God by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. (John 1:12; Acts 16:30-33; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-9)

We believe that Jesus is the Way, The Truth, and the Life—Jesus is not one of many but THE ONLY WAY to eternal life. (John 14:6)
